From the perspective of various uses of tarpaulin, the general requirements that should be met are: light weight, easy folding, and convenient handling operation; High strength, wear resistance, and long service life; Good waterproof and breathable properties, with anti condensation water on the inner side; Acid and alkali resistance, mold resistance, and corrosion resistance; Good weather resistance, flame retardant and fireproof; No wicking effect, no moisture conduction phenomenon will occur.
Under normal circumstances, tarpaulins are generally required to have the "three prevention" function. Namely waterproof, fireproof (flame retardant), and mold resistant. The breathability of tarpaulins, especially military tarpaulins, is influenced by factors such as the fabric structure, density, material, type of waterproof finishing agent, and resin adhesion. As the resin adhesion increases, the breathability of the tarpaulin decreases. Of course, this is related to the finishing agent used. Generally, tents with breathability are mostly made of short woven fabrics such as cotton, vinylon, and lacquered fibers that have been treated with paraffin or acrylic resin.
